To encode a cards magstripe, energy is applied to
the magnetic stripe to temporarily reverse its polarity and add information. The level of energy required for this process depends on the coercivity of the magstripe, with higher coercivity resulting in increased data security against erasure or overwriting. Hi-co is usually black, while lo-co is usually brown.
Hi-Co Magstripe
If you want to have the card last for long periods of time and store unique information and data specific to the carrier, Hi-Co is the safest bet.
Lo-Co Magstripe
If you intend to reuse or change information on a card frequently,
such as temporary security passes, transit tickets, gift cards, or hotel key cards, LoCo cards are a good budget choice.
